Abdominoplasty

Abdominoplasty is a surgical procedure that removes excess skin and subcutaneous fat from the lower abdomen through excision, while tightening and reinforcing the abdominal muscles.

There are several techniques and modifications of the operation:

Classic abdominoplasty – performed as described above: the navel is detached from its original position on the skin and brought out through a new opening after the skin-and-fat layer is fixed along the lower edge of the incision. The scar is concealed by underwear and positioned as close as possible to the pubic area and groin folds. There is a scar around the navel.

Mini abdominoplasty – only the excess skin and fat are removed, without detaching or repositioning the navel. The scar is similar to the classic technique. There is no scar around the navel.

Modified abdominoplasty – excess skin and fat are removed together with detachment of the navel from the deep structures, so that it is moved down by 2–3 cm as the skin-and-fat layer is fixed. The scar is similar to those described above. There is no scar around the navel.

Extended abdominoplasty – the same as the classic technique, but with the incision continuing as far as possible to the sides, involving the tissue on the lateral surfaces of the body and even reaching towards the back.

Reverse abdominoplasty – excess tissue is removed from the upper abdomen, with the scar placed in the fold beneath the breasts and visible in the area between them. Usually there is no scar around the navel.

This operation can be combined with other types of aesthetic surgery.

This operation is not a surgical treatment for being overweight. Patients who are overweight and intend to lose weight should postpone any body-contouring surgery until they have reached and stably maintained their ideal body weight. In addition, the results of abdominoplasty can be negatively affected by a subsequent pregnancy and the resulting stretching of the abdominal wall.

Abdominoplasty can only be performed surgically. This is a highly individual procedure, and you should have it done for yourself, not to fulfil someone else's expectations. It is a good option for you if you are in good physical health and have a positive outlook together with realistic goals for improving your appearance.

There is no single "right" age for abdominoplasty. Ultimately, the timing depends on when you are psychologically and aesthetically ready for the procedure.
